Chocolate Cheese Swirl Brownies
When I was little, this was a favourite family recipe that our mum would bake with us.
I always got the brownie bowl to mix, and my sister got the cream cheese filling bowl.
My family always gets compliments on these brownies.
They are amazing!
This is a Crisco recipe from the 90’s that has been adapted.
Ingredients:
Filling:
- 1/3 cup of margarine
- 1 package of cream cheese softened (250 g/8 oz)
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Brownie:
- 2/3 cup of margarine
- 4 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F
Filling:
Melt the butter and cream cheese, and cream together in a small bowl.
Add in the sugar and mix.
Beat in eggs, flour and vanilla.
Set aside the filling.
Brownie:
Melt the butter, and chocolate chips, and stir together.
This can be done in a saucepan on the stove, or in the microwave in a bowl. Stir in the sugar until combined.
Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
Stir well until blended.
Spread 2/3 of the chocolate batter into a 9″ x 13″ floured, or lined (with parchment), baking tin.
Pour the cream cheese filling on top.
Add the 1/3 remaining brownie batter on top.
Using a knife, swirl the two mixtures, to create a marbled look.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
Enjoy!
